Moving from idea to production

Keep the idea.
Make it real.

A vehicle has to survive far more than a design review. The work carried a clear exterior direction through engineering, packaging and production.

Into production

2009Dodge Ram
2011Dodge Durango

I contributed exterior design to both production programs, with exterior design patents tied to each. The finished vehicles reflect the work of the wider design, engineering and production teams.

Dodge / Jeep / The brief

Design for
the real world.

Working as an exterior designer in the Jeep studio, Rob contributed to the 2009 Dodge Ram and 2011 Dodge Durango production programs.

The challenge was to preserve a strong design idea while resolving the demands of engineering, manufacturing, cost and vehicle packaging.

Ram / Strength & proportion

Sketches established the character and the relationships between the major forms. Those ideas then had to be resolved with the wider design and engineering teams.

Rob’s contribution was exterior design within a collaborative production program.

Durango / Utility & character

The Durango work connected profile, front and rear into one coherent exterior, refined through production development.

Advanced exploration

Outside active programs, sketching was a place to push proportion, architecture and brand character without the full weight of cost, manufacturing or packaging. These drawings were not proposals to build every object. They were a way to keep the creative vocabulary moving.
